A Storyteller In Search Of An Ending
The result is that the term Aavarana now describes what has happened to S. Both are controversial issues in our nation. The book begins with the protagonist, Raziacontemplating the ruins of Hampi. And they control academia and media and vote-bank politics.
The story written by the protagonist is very brutal though. He epitomizes the class of left leaning intellectuals that have sold their conscience to the establishment in return for the favors it bestows upon them.
Loved the narration and therefore I believe the translation must be top class. But we can totally agree about in putting right effort to get it right in the right direction.

Bhyrappa is a story of a free-spirited and rebellious young woman, Lakshmi, who marries the man she is deeply in love with. But Bhyrappa’s books buck the trend and most of them avaraba gone on to multiple editions. She, a screenplay writer, and her husband Amircommissioned by the government, are in Hampi to make a documentary. Its even more interesting to read the opinions of various other readers which is by itself a different treat to me. Many prominent intellectuals believe Aavarana dangerously advanced the fundamentalist agenda by tilting at the windmills of history, and that it seeks to divide society on communal lines.

History cannot be romanticised without distorting facts but this book seems to have achieved the impossible. This smooth talking educationist has shades of several real well-known personalities in him. I would like to mention one incident wherein after moving to Madina. The sight of Hindus converting to other religions, or of cows being slaughtered, seems to freeze all his erudition, and in his essays he can sound like the reactionary that his critics say he is.
