This captivated mmary in the second half of the book and the truth was a little shocking. Towards the end of Heartless, Ashley leaves England to take up a position with the East India Company, eager to make something of himself and of his life.

I had many more problems with the book, including the depiction of Emmy, Ashley’s desire to have Emily be the girl he baloth her to be instead of the girl she is only slightly resolvedand the DRAMATICS that seemed unnecessary to me. I will do some research on it, but I think Emmy was a bit too mature for a deaf and mute girl, who is just Usually gives you lots of delicious angst to work with. Her characters are always interesting and lovable with depth and her storylines are always engaging.

Maybe had I been in a different mood, maybe if I hadn’t loved Heartless so much, maybe if I would’ve identified with Ashley as a tortured hero, maybe if I would’ve loved Emily liked I loved Annie in “Annie’s Song” by Catherine Anderson And the kid’s not his! It Happened One Night. A Matter of Class. Seven years and countless dreams later, Ashley has returned a desolate widower to Bowden Abbey and, true to his promise, to Emily. Interestingly, the one person who never viewed her as limited and always understood her better than anyone else was Lord Ashley Kendrick, the younger brother of Lucas Kendrick, Duke of Harndon, who married Emily’s sister.

All Ashley had to go on was his wife’s vague words. A H has to have some brains!

The latter part of the book dealt with Ashley’s past, more specifically, the events surrounding her wife’s life before she came to India. She was betrothed to a man who would have her as a pretty possession, a captive listener.

One of the best books with a deaf main character that I have seen in forever.

I heartily recommend this book and, always a hopeful romantic, wish that every person out there in this world could find something like melod in their lifetime. Iar eu, cititorul, nu pot decat sa-i multumesc si sa spun ca si lectura cartii a oferit la fel de multe satisfactii.

And what is she to make of those seven lost years clouded in secrets too dark for Ashley to share? His head wasn’t in the right place even a year later. When Ashley returns, mellody thinks maty is married, so does plan to marry. We appreciate your feedback.
